Full Job Description:
You will be an integral part of the Fastener Engineering company, enabling our work to provide fasteners, systems and assembly processes that provide Tesla engineers and manufacturing companies with a competitive advantage in their mission to design and manufacture products. making the world more advanced for development. strength. You will work closely with our engineering team during the initial design phase to suggest and implement the best assembly method for the system to control assembly time, cost and process as much as possible from the start.
What To Do:
Leads the design of fasteners and joints across all programs
Fastener and engineering standards across all programs
Conduct joint / joint analysis to uncover opportunities for disruption, confusion and cost control
Collaborate with design/production and quality teams to create the best casting/assembly process for design/production
Performs detailed analysis of embedded joints (eg, torque vs. clamp load, verification of clamping limits, thread engagement requirements)
Design fasteners (2D and 3D) and print them from the fastener library in Tesla PLM.
Connect with the Supplier Sourcing and Quality team to quickly access and create a list of recommended suppliers for each product.
Collaborate with multiple teams to design robust brands with ease of manufacture, ease of maintenance, unit cost and reliability in mind.
What To Bring:
BS/MS degree in Mechanics, Materials Engineering or related field
Exceptional understanding of the relationship between torque, load integration, friction, thread formation/strength.
2+ years of experience in fastener engineering or related field
Experience developing torque values based on design requirements
2+ years of 2D and 3D design experience (Catia V5/V6 preferred)
Experience in material/connectivity testing (eg destructive and non-destructive testing, compressive loads, stress, joint slips testing, etc.)
GD&T experience in quality control
Excellent understanding of welding, machining, heat treatment and coating
Design experience with structural and pop rivets preferred
Experience in captive fabrication (welding, clinching, riveting, etc.) is beneficial.
