The Opaque Touch and Sensing team develops advanced solutions and technologies that are at the heart of Apple products, including MacBook Pro, Mac Book Air, Apple Pencil, HomePod, Apple TV Siri Remote, Magic Mouse and Magic TrackPad. You will be part of a team that creates new ideas for products used by millions of people. This work includes electrostatic and multiphysics modeling, sensor design and performance measurement.
Important skills
Solid experience in electrostatic and dielectric materials. Experience with FEA modeling tools and understanding of fundamental equations.
Direct experience with COMSOL (or equivalent) FEA simulation tools. Understand material behavior and how it affects sensor performance due to thermal, humidity, electromagnetic and mechanical effects. Multiphysical background models incorporating these effects are preferred. Good understanding of electrical circuits. The touch sensor creates a better experience. Knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks or NX is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Explain
- The main task of this task is the standard development of touch sensors.
- Piloting a new sensor technology
- Feasibility analysis, product stacking and sensor element design. Model and simulate sensor design to determine design response to user interaction.
- Develop analytical models to predict sensor performance that include manufacturing and environmental variables. Circuit modeling, statistical analysis and conceptual thinking on integration.
- Tolerance and sensitivity analysis. Analysis and validation of the design, including the correlation between the test bench and the simulation models.
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers and data scientists. Conduct rigorous reviews with internal teams and suppliers.
Education and knowledge
- MS or PhD in electrical engineering, physics related field or equivalent field.
