We are looking for a professional who will play a key role in forecasting, optimizing and monitoring Delta’s scheduled (ie major) flight times. Block Group production serves as a critical input to achieving Delta’s time and financial goals; The goals our customers and shareholders expect.
The candidate is responsible for two main goals. Short-term goals include the end of the block plan.
Prediction and optimization of first block time
Keeping track of the behavior and control of aircraft, airport construction, runways, etc. which leads to a deviation from the original prediction
Do a month-after-month check on the accuracy of the initial forecast
Long-term goals are aimed at improving the team’s overall performance. These include…
Improved the Delta monitor to block time from the forward/backward feature
Organize data pipelines and dashboards used by team members
This is a highly visible situation because many departments in Delta are interested in Block. The candidate will join various teams (such as Airline Management, Operations & Performance Analysis, Network / Schedule Planning, etc.) and demonstrate results across the business; from individual contributors to vice presidents. Success will depend on these partnerships and the balance between short-term and long-term delivery. Summary of services (not limited to):
Take ownership of all the Blocks for marketing
Monthly forecast, optimization and analysis of scheduled blocks for future periods
Monthly performance reviews (ie audits) of the first predicted block
Show prediction errors and events, if any
Collaborate with Air Traffic Control and OCC planning to work to better understand the changes in congestion and improve its policy.
Provide data insights for ad-hoc and block performance requests
Present the critical problem to the audience that may influence the decision
Test the new block prediction method that improves accuracy and reduces learning time
Continue to move the team from legacy data pipelines to more cost-effective features
Use basic instructions to generate results
Allocate priority tasks to meet deadlines
Promote a collegiate environment to promote collective intelligence of the group
