About these duties and responsibilities
- This position reports to the Cloud Engineering team. In this Cloud Engineer role, you gain experience building scalable, secure, and available cloud services in a hybrid Platform as a Service (PaaS), while also working with many other open source products. for your needs
- Your primary role is to develop technology solutions that enhance American Express’ hybrid cloud platform, with a focus on building automation to deliver high-capacity cloud services.
- We work with the rest of our API Engineering team, UI Engineering team, Quality team, and Product Management team to create efficient, quality APIs and solutions. .
- Research and implement new technologies and libraries that enable the development of lean products. Implementation of API/middleware solutions involving NSQL, platforms and partners
- Secure your APIs with security solutions such as Okta, SSO, mTLS, HashiCorp Vault, etc.
- Follows best practices that lead to code control, including standardization, compliance, integration, testing, and code analysis. A willingness to learn new skills and an interest in the speed with which we develop software

Preferably a bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience with any cloud service provider (AWS, GCP, public cloud)
- 3+ years of experience developing REST APIs using GoLang and/or Google’s Java. 6+ years of experience in cloud engineering, CI/CD, Kubernetes, Openshift, Docker, etc.

- Thorough understanding of REST principles as a service provider and customer. Good experience with all NSQL databases (preferably CouchBase and ETCD)
- Deep understanding of security integrations – Okta, mTLS, SSO, HashiCorop Vault and more
- Thorough understanding of API Gateway and its features. Experience with container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and Openshift
- Deep understanding of CI/CD processes and tools such as Git, Docker, Jenkins, Spinnaker, XL Release, etc. Proven experience in developing middleware solutions with a focus on code quality, unit testing, integration, quality analysis tools and API insights (Swagger).
- Familiarity with agile development processes. Understand the EQ process.
