Cloud Engineering provides a comprehensive platform that enables critical business applications to have faster time to market for American Express. Cloud Engineering provides models and services of hard and fast code development, such as Platform-as-a-Service, Infrastructure-as-a-Service, DB-as-a-Service, Analytics-as-a-Service, Information-as-a-Service, CICD Pipeline, etc. for application developers in hybrid cloud environments.
American Express is building an exciting hybrid cloud and is looking for awesome engineers to work on building our cloud platform. This position will be communicated to the xPaaS Services Cloud Engineering team within the Cloud Engineering organization. In this engineering role, you will be part of a team responsible for cloud computing such as Redis, Kafka, Elastic, Spark, Cassandra and GridGain with cloud and public cloud providers. How can you make an impact on this project?
With your basic understanding of Linux, computing and networking, you will ensure that all services are highly available and scalable, using both open source and vendor provided products. Be a domain expert in at least two of the following: Redis, Kafka Spark, GridGain, Elastic, or Cassandra and their corresponding cloud services.
- Gain a strong understanding of cloud principles and containerized platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes and Redhat OpenShift to support our customers’ use of cloud services.
- Develop Terraform programming scripts to automate the installation and configuration of various managed services providing resources and components in cloud and private environments.
- Integrate monitoring tools like Splunk, Prometheus and ELK.
- Create scripts using Linux scripting, Python, and programming languages such as YAML/JSON
- Combine your skills and expertise with detailed and logical root cause analysis to find opportunities to build faster and better
- Provide advanced technical assistance as needed to support our operational support team, including troubleshooting performance issues related to virtualization and containerized environments.
Eligibility:
- Generally 5+ years of relevant technical experience and 2-3 years of relevant engineering experience
- A proven professional in a large Fortune 100 company that performs large IT production projects, including infrastructure (servers, networks, security, storage) and the installation of large applications (distributed, middleware, databases at all levels)
- Experience working in Agile teams leading to rapid development and development of working products
- Knowledge of integration and managed cloud services with AWS/GCP/Azure
- Strong experience with Linux operations and system administration
- Demonstrated working knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery implementations
- Strong knowledge of power management and VMware
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience
- Strong interest in learning new technologies, especially in relation to cloud infrastructure
Experience is desirable
- Management and control of private or public companies
- Proven expertise in diagnostic testing and rehabilitation. Professional in customer relations
- Strong English communication skills and ability to work with customers in critical outage situations.
- Good written and communication skills and presentation skills
