We are looking for a specialist to play a key role in forecasting, optimizing and evaluating Delta’s scheduled flight times (e.g., blocking). Block Team output serves as a critical input to achieving Delta’s timeliness and financial goals; Objectives that our customers and shareholders expect.
The candidate is responsible for two general objectives. Short-term goals include end-to-end ownership of block plans.
These Include:
Predict and optimize initial block times
Keep an eye out for behaviors in air traffic control, airport construction, routing, etc. which determine the variance of the initial forecast
Complete a post-month analysis on the accuracy of the initial forecast
Long-term goals are designed to improve the team’s overall process. These include…
Improvement of Delta’s Block Time Forecaster through front-end/back-end initiatives
Modernize the data pipeline and dashboards your team uses
This is a highly visible position as several departments of Delta have a vested interest in Block. The candidate will liaise with various teams (e.g. Air Traffic Management, Operations Performance & Analysis, Network Planning/Scheduling, etc.) and present results across the business spectrum; from individual contributors to vice presidents. Success will depend on these partnerships and balancing short-term results with long-term ones. Summary Of Responsibilities (not limited to):
Take ownership of all things Block to hit the market
Monthly forecast, optimization and verification of the planned block of future periods
Monthly performance review (aka post analysis) of scheduled block accuracy
Highlights prediction error drivers and action where appropriate
Work with OCC Air Traffic Management and Operations Planning to proactively understand changes to Block and adjust forecasts accordingly.
Provide data insights for ad hoc block performance queries
Presents relevant Block problems to the public who can influence the resolution
